How to use the FollowFarmer page
the
followfarmer page is intended to be somewhat of a directory of twitter users who
are connected to agriculture. it
can be used to find people you wish to follow or just to browse the variety of
interesting ag people using the twitter
service
first,
lets look at the grid of information, a brief description of each column
follows:
twitter
name – the name this person uses on the twitter service, you can click on this
name and go directly to that persons twitter page where their “tweets” are
posted.
name –
this is the name taken directly from the twitter
service.
location –
once again, taken directly from what the user has entered on the twitter
service
county –
this is assigned by the maintainers of this list based on the twitter profile of
the person.
category –
the maintainers of this list have grouped the list into several broad
categories.
important note: we realize that many people may disagree with the category we have placed you in. we apologize in advance for any errors. it is our intention to allow this type of information to be updated/changed by individuals, but it is going to take some time to develop that part of the application. in the meantime, if you really would like either the country or category information changed, send a tweet to @followfarmer and we will try to get it done. please understand that it may take time to get changes made. as you will see below, having a good description will probably be far more important for people finding you than the category we place you in.
description – once again this info is taken directly from
the twitter service.
you can
click on any of the column titles to sort the currently displayed records by
that column.
at the
bottom of the grid you will find links to navigate to various pages of the
list.
filtering and searching
the
“filter list by:” box at the top allows you to narrow down the list showing on
the grid, select one or more options and hit the “apply filter” button. you can easily see what your filter has
done by looking at the number of records shown. when i wrote this doc there were
391 records in the total list. if i
filtered for “animal ag” it took the list down to 77. the “clear filter criteria” will return
to the full list.
the
“search” button will search for the entered text anywhere in the record,
including name/location/description.
some examples of searches that may be useful include a type of farming
like “dairy”, a specific company such as “monsanto”, or even a state “il”. one problem you will see with something
like “il” – it returns any record where the two letters il are together so it a
little to generic to be very useful.
once you have narrowed down a search and want to return to the full list
simply blank out the search box and hit
search.
it is
important to understand the difference between the “filter list” and
“search”. they can even be used
together but it has to be in a specific order – first enter your search word or
words after you have searched and returned all records found then select a
filter and hit “apply filter” – you should get a list that contains both what
you searched and filtered for. the
important thing is to do the search first b/c anytime you do a search the filter
information is cleared.
